He plays François, a middle-aged white Afrikaaner family man with a secret passion that he indulges with like-minded white guys. He is gay, has orgies that are presented with a strange, fierce joylessness, and is becoming fixated on his nephew. I have some misgivings about the film’s ending, a sexual assault that is of a recognisable arthouse type, and yet it is rare to see a rape scene where the victim is a man.

Stars like Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Desmond Elliot, Mike Ezuruonye, Tonto Dike and others owe Nollywood their fame and success. The film has a dynamic pace with many humorous moments, and is a great sign of things to come for Netflix original productions from Nigeria and other parts of the African continent. Lionheart made waves as Netflix’s first-ever Nigerian original film production. In practical terms, this means you don’t have to worry about the movie getting taken off Netflix due to some licensing disagreements.
